08/09/2008: Saturday night racing at Franklin Co. Speedway was a hotly contested event. The MMRA National Championship is bringing cars from all over Virginia, Pennsylvania, Georgia, & Tennessee. Qualifying was the closet top 5 of the season. Daryl Mason collected his 1st career pole award. The top qualifiers were as follows:
16.841 - #5 - Daryl Mason
16.843 - #48 - Sammy Brookes
16.864 - #01 - Donald McIntosh
16.879 - #88 - Tyler Baird
16.895 - #2 -
Bradley Kennett
The racing was a slugfest starting with the first lap of the race. #88 Tyler Baird started 4th, but did not get a good kick when the green flag fell. Cars were jockeying for position when #4 Casey Willingham got into the back of #79 Jason Styron, spinning him into #88 of Baird. In the may lay #70 Tommy Hall, trying to driver through the wreck makes hard contact with the #4 of Williingham driving him into #7 Stephen Hershey as he was attempting to avoid the wreck pinning him against the outside wall. #47 Draven Harrison had the close call of the night by diving below all of the mess. The wreck ended the night for #70 Tommy Hall.
After the caution was a long green flag run with the lead being contested by the top 5 cars. #48 Sammy Brookes has a short stay at the front, when #88 Tyler makes his charge for the lead. Baird stretches his lead while Kennett, McIntosh, & Brookes battle. Kennett is shuffled to the outside & drops from 2nd to 5th. McIntosh runs down Baird & takes over the lead around the half way mark of the race. Kennett runs down the leaders late in the race. While trading 3rd position multiple times with Brookes, Kennett spins from contact with Brookes bringing out the 2nd caution of the night.
The restart was a "GREEN, WHITE, CHECKERED" with McIntosh taking the win. #88 Baird holds off a hard charging #4 Willingham, followed by #48 Brookes, & #2 Kennett rounding out the top 5.

07/04/2008: The South East Super Mini-Cups were back in action at Franklin Co. Speedway for their July 4th Event. We all knew that fireworks were planned for the completion of the nights racing. The SESMC had some fireworks of their own on the track. Qualifing speeds were separated by 1/10th of a second through 6th position. Pole sitter Sammy Brookes drew 4th position for the inversion placing Casey Willingham & Brian Arrington on the front row for the start of the race.
From the green flag racing was hot & heavy. Sammy Brookes quickly worked his way to 2nd & started to work on Casey Willingham by lap 5. Brookes attempts to get under Willingham getting into turn 3. Willingham did not know Brookes was there & they get hooked together all of the way through the corner. Smoke was flying off both cars & neither driver was going to give the other an inch. Brookes stays under Willingham all the way down the front stretch inches from the inside wall. They attempt to enter turn 1 & get together again. Brookes washes up into Willingham & both cars are dirt tracking through turn 1 & 2, ending with Willingham not being able to continue. The action bottle necks the field behind them. Arrington attempts to drive through the wreck. #25 Derek Law saw the same hole. Neither Arrington or Law saw each other, or take their foot off the throttle. Law hits Arrington in the center of the corner & turns the #17 into the wall at speed. Arrington was carried to the hospital. He was treated & released. Law was unable to continue. Brookes was placed at the tail end of the lead lap for rough driving.
When racing resumed after a lengthy caution #01 Donald McIntosh took the lead & never turned it loose. #2 Bradley Kennett, #88 Tyler Baird, #48 Sammy Brookes, & #04 Steve Teter round out the top 5.
